Antenatal Shared Care in Griffin

Shared pregnancy care with your GP and your hospital or midwife, from confirmation to postnatal review.

Pregnant patient at an antenatal appointment with her GP

Fewer hospital trips, the same doctor throughout

Antenatal shared care means most of your routine pregnancy appointments happen here with your own GP, while your hospital or midwifery team handles the scans, specialist reviews and the birth itself. For families in Griffin, Murrumba Downs and North Lakes it saves a great deal of travel and waiting, and it means the person checking your blood pressure each visit already knows you.

Care begins as soon as you have a positive test. Book in early so we can start the first round of blood tests, confirm dating and organise your hospital referral.

Through the pregnancy

Your GP will look after:

  • Pregnancy confirmation, dating and first trimester bloods
  • Referral to your chosen hospital or midwifery program
  • Routine antenatal visits with blood pressure, growth and wellbeing checks
  • Screening tests, including gestational diabetes and anaemia
  • Whooping cough and influenza vaccination in pregnancy
  • Advice on nutrition, medication safety, exercise and common pregnancy symptoms
  • Mental health screening and support during and after pregnancy
  • The six-week postnatal check for you and your baby

After the birth

The postnatal period matters as much as the pregnancy. At your six-week check we review your recovery, feeding, contraception and mood, and your baby's growth, feeding and first immunisations. Postnatal depression and anxiety are common and treatable, and we screen for them openly rather than waiting to be asked.

Preconception advice is also worth an appointment if you are planning a pregnancy, particularly for folate, medication review and immunity checks.
